Description
The first gaze is that of our visual confrontation, our emotional reaction to the painting's composition, to the relationship between various tones and the background, which often consists of flat panes of vivid color. Some canvases suggest the visible through abstraction, similar in intent to the last paintings of Nicolas de Stael.
